Requirements Checklist
Submit official transcripts:
High School Graduates must submit an Official High School Transcript; G.E.D. graduates must submit a copy of scores and certificate; transfer students must submit an official college transcript from all colleges previously attended. (Dual Credit students do not submit transcripts until “after” graduation.)
Submit proof of Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine
Students under the age of 22 attending SWTJC for the first time must submit proof of having received the Bacterial Meningitis Vaccine.
Placement Test Information:
Complete placement testing
All students taking the TSIA2 Assessment must have completed the Pre-Assessment Activity that is required of all students by the State of Texas prior to TSIA2 testing. Visit the Testing Center page for more information.
The placement test required is the TSIA2 Assessment which is offered at the Testing Center. If you have any questions about registering for a testing appointment, please contact the Testing Center at (830) 591-2946. Outlined below you will find what can qualify as an exemption to the placement test:
ACT: Composite score of 23 with a minimum of 19 on the English test and/or the mathematics test shall be exempt for those corresponding sections;
SAT prior to March 2016: A combined verbal and mathematics score of 1070 with a minimum of 500 on the verbal test and/or the mathematics test shall be exempt for those corresponding sections;
SAT as of March 2016: EBRW – 480; Math – 530: No Combined score requirement.
Texas Success Initiative (TSIA2): All public institutions of higher learning in Texas require that incoming students document compliance with the Texas Success Initiative through an assessment or a qualifying exemption or waiver. There are 2 sections, Math and Reading/Writing (ELAR).
STAAR: A student who tested and performed on the English III EOC with a minimum score of 4000 and/or a minimum score of 4000 on the Algebra II EOC shall be exempt from the assessment for those corresponding sections.
Register for classes
Once all the steps above have been completed you will be eligible to register for classes. It is recommended that any first-time student, unsure of what classes to take, make an appointment to visit with one of our Academic Advisors and use Student Planning for class registration.
New Student Orientation
As part of SWTJC admission requirements, and before you can register for classes, you are required to attend a New Student Orientation Session. In your session, you will learn important SWTJC policies and procedures as well as useful information about making the transition into college.
