Dual Credit Program

Dual Credit programs through Southwest Texas College provide students the opportunity to earn both college and high school credit while enrolled in high school. Through a formal partnership, SWTX and participating school districts approve students meeting program requirements to enroll in agreed-upon courses.

Southwest Texas College (SWTX) adheres to Texas HB 3041 by providing equal access to dual credit courses for all high school students, including homeschool students aged 16 and older, applying consistent admission criteria and policies without discrimination.



Requirements for Dual Credit Students

Students who would like to take advantage of dual credit opportunities must meet all of the following:
  1. Apply for Admissions at www.ApplyTexas.org (step-by-step application process)
  2. Receive an official letter of acceptance with SWTX login information from the Admissions Office
  3. Submit Dual Credit Admissions Form and Bacterial Meningitis Immunization (if attending on a SWTX campus) to dualcredit@swtxc.edu 
  4. Complete New Student Orientation
  5. Submit qualifying scores and high school transcript. Acceptable tests: TSIA2, ACT, SAT, STARR EOC
  6. Register for classes by contacting your high school counselor to begin the registration process
  7. Check with your counselor if your school covers tuition; if not, you pay the reduced costs for the dual credit college courses

 

Potential dual credit students must fulfill TSI requirements by:

  1. Being exept with specific scores via ACT, SAT, and STARR EOC
  2. Taking the TSI exam and receiving a minimum passing score on the applicable sections required for entry-level in the course desired

To officially declare a major or request a change to your current major, complete and submit the Major and Field of Study Declaration Forms

Still weighing your options? Students who have not yet selected a specific program of study may begin their course work under the Non- Degree (Undeclared) Major while exploring various academic interests.

Non-Degree (Undeclared) Major

The Non-Degree (Undeclared) Major is for student who have been admitted but have not yet declared a specific program or major. This major is designed for students who are exploring their academic options.

Non-Degree (undeclared) Major Rules:

  • Who qualifies?
    This is available to students with UNDER 15 earned college credit hours. Students who have earned OVER 15 college credit hours DO NOT qualify.
  • Do you need the TSIA2?
    Students DO NOT need to be TSIA2 Complete to enroll in college courses under the Non-Degree Seeking Status
  • What occurs upon earning 15 college credit hours?
    Upon earning 15 college credit hours, students MUST officially declare a major.

Students are recommended to consult with their SWTX Success Coach to ensure courses align with long-term degree plans.
