Aircraft General Maintenance Purpose

The Aircraft General Maintenance Program is a Level 1 Certificate program for those who desire to gain knowledge and skills in the aviation maintenance field.  Skills in aviation shop practices, ground operations, aviation science, basic electricity, weight & balance, and federal aviation regulations, shop safety, servicing and general operating procedures will be covered.  Students completing the certificate will be able to seek entry-level employment in aircraft general maintenance related fields.

Aircraft General Maintenance Admission Requirements

Students are admitted through regular college admission procedures (see Admission Regulations section). This Level 1 Certificate is TSI waived, however, those students who are not TSI complete or “College Ready” are encouraged to enroll in college preparatory/developmental coursework or material. Students will receive a Level 1 Certificate upon satisfactory completion of the courses of study and upon making formal application for graduation (see Curricula section).

Program of Study

The AERM courses in the Program of Study for the Aircraft General Maintenance Level I Program taught at a SWTJC instructional site will not satisfy the course requirements for the Airframe Mechanics Level II Program unless the instructor at that instructional site possess Federal Aviation Administration licensure and the instructional site is a Federal Aviation Administration approved site.

Airframe Mechanics Level 2 Certificate (47.0607) Del Rio Campus


Airframe Mechanics Purpose

Airframe Mechanics is a Level 2 Certificate program for those who desire to gain knowledge and skills in the Airframe Mechanics field. Skills in aviation Shop Practices, Ground Operations, Aviation Science, Basic Electricity, Landing Gear Systems, and Airframe Inspection will be developed along with related learning in areas such as shop safety, servicing and general operating procedures. Courses will be taught through the use of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) 147 curriculum. This degree plan prepares and qualifies students to take Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) mechanic’s exams for General Airframe. Students completing the certificate will be able to seek entry-level employment in Airframe Mechanic related fields.
